Ânimas

The spirit of animals, pure and free.

In the gaze of animals there is something that escapes us. Not an instinct, not a force, but a consciousness that asks for nothing and yet imposes itself. Here the animals are not represented: they emerge, as if they carried with them a piece of the ancient world. Each figure comes with its own silence, its memory of the territory, its way of standing up to the light. Nothing is tamed. Nothing is ornament. These are ânimas — beings crossed by the living, standing in their simple truth, untameable, familiar and distant at once.
